Civil air transportation in the People's Republic of China was the responsibility of CAB - Civil Aviation Bureau (or Agency) together with SKOGA (Sino-Soviet Civil Aviation Company). The CAB, which used the name "Civil Aviation" (in Chinese) on aircraft and publicity, was reformed as CAAC - Civil Aviation Administration of China in late 1954 and SKOGA was merged into that entity with effect from 1955. The name "Civil Aviation" continued in use until 1957.
In 1988, CAAC was divided into a number of separate airlines, and gradually concentrated on acting solely as the civil aviation authority in China, with no airline operation of its own. |
