Air Algérie

France and Algeria

*

The original Air Algérie was established in 1946 as a subsidiary of Société Algérienne de
Constructions Aéronautiques. Operations started in 1947, concentrating on services between
France and Algeria. Large shipping companies, including Compagnie Générale Transatlantique,
instigated a merger between Air Algérie and Compagnie Air Transport, another company
engaged in the France-Algeria traffic. This resulted in the formation of CGTA Air Algérie
in 1953, now the present national airline Air Algérie.
