SAM - Società Aerea Mediterranea
Italy
Formed in 1926, SAM started services to and within Albania in 1927, and during the next
few years,
routes were opened in Italy and to Tunisia. SAM took over Transadriatica in 1931.
This Venice-based airline had opened a route to Munich earlier that year, which SAM extended to
Berlin.
In 1934, SAM merged with Navigazione Aerea - SANA, SISA - Società Italiana Servizi Aerei and
AEI - Aero Espresso Italiana, to form
Ala Littoria, the pre-war national airline of Italy.
