The airline was formed as Misr Airwork (also known as Misr Airlines) and began flying in 1933. It changed its name to Misrair in 1949 when becoming wholly Egyptian-owned. United Arab Airlines was created in December 1958, following the union between Egypt and Syria (United Arab Republic). Misrair gradually adopted this name (with full implementation in January 1961) and Syrian Airways was merged into the airline but left in the autumn of 1961, when the union broke up. However, United Arab Airlines retained its name until becoming Egypt Air in 1971. |
