This section features BEA timetables from its first years when no system timetables were issued.
Information in the blue boxes has been provided by Michael Dawes as well as the information on broadsheet timetables
below.

BEA - British European Airways was established as a division of the state airline BOAC - British Overseas Airways Corporation in January 1946. It operated some of BOAC's routes within Europe. In August, it became a Corporation independent of BOAC, and assumed its role as the sole British airline serving European and domestic destinations. It took over all existing domestic scheduled airlines, but those still operating, like Railway Air Services and Scottish Airways, continued flying on behalf of BEA into 1947.
This section deals with the timetables for specific routes or areas which were the only BEA timetables published for public use during the first years of operation. Already in the autumn of 1946, there were broadsheet timetables for wall hanging, separate ones for international and domestic routes, but they were most likely intended for trade use only. The broadsheet timetables evolved into neatly-folded standard format timetables for public use in the autum of 1949. Unless you managed to get hold of those broadsheet timetables, you needed the many local and regional timetables to grasp the full activity of BEA during the infant years.
Only in April 1951 did a complete system timetable appear for the first time. |
