Ansett Airways started flying between Melbourne and Hamilton in the state of Victoria in 1936.

ANA - Australian National Airways, a larger airline in financial trouble, was acquired by Ansett's parent company, Ansett Transport Industries, in October 1957. The two airlines were merged as Ansett-ANA, later Ansett Australia.
