Aero Espresso Italiana, founded in 1923, opened the route Brindisi-Athens-Istanbul in 1926,
later joined by a route to Rhodes, also via Athens.

In 1934, the airline merged with Navigazione Aerea - SANA, SISA - Società Italiana Servizi Aerei
and SAM - Società Aerea Mediterranea, to form Ala Littoria, the pre-war national airline of Italy.
