The Normandie (83,423 grt after refit, 1,030 ft. long) sailed for slightly over three years until she was laid up in New York
at the outbreak of WW2. She was seized by the U.S. government when the U.S. entered the war in December 1941 and
renamed Lafayette. During conversion work to become a Navy Transport she caught fire and was eventually scrapped after
